<\/a>Source: Factsheet: Social Economy Action Plan (2021)<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n Romania has 37,391 employees in the cooperative sector –\u00a0 the lowest share of workers in the social economy sector – only 0.9%.<\/p>\n Associations and foundations had a positive dynamic, given the favorable fiscal framework for their financing. The number of these organizations has steadily increased \u2013 from 2019 to 2020 with 4,277 organizations.<\/strong><\/p>\n The non-profit sector also has the largest number of employees:\u00a0\u00a0112,656 employees,<\/strong> of which 18,038 are in education and 12,078 in social assistance and care.<\/p>\n [su_highlight]2,597 social enterprises were certified in March 2022[\/su_highlight].<\/strong>\u00a0The extraordinary dynamic of certification is due to available grants through\u00a0the European Social\u00a0Fund \/Human capital Operational Program\u00a02014-2020<\/a><\/p>\n In all the 41 counties in Romania there is at least one certified social enterprise, the national average being 49 enterprises per county<\/strong> \u2013 a the major increase compared to March 2021<\/strong> when it was 35.<\/p>\n The number of social enterprises in a county varies from 1 in Ilfov county (which was not eligible for European funds for social enterprises) and 299.<\/strong><\/p>\n The highest density is registered in Alba county<\/strong> – 299 certified social enterprises (up from 229 in the same period last year), followed by Cluj with 186 certified social enterprises<\/strong> and Maramure\u0219 with 161.<\/p>\n Top three counties<\/strong> in terms of number of social enterprises are all located in the West or Center of Romania.<\/strong><\/p>\n 180 active WISEs in March 2022 – 28 were certified between 2016-2020; 152 were established in between 2021-2022, spurred by existing grants\u00a0(available through\u00a0the European Social\u00a0Fund \/Human capital Operational Program\u00a02014-2020).<\/a><\/p>\n The final report will also present a top of WISEs with the most employees and the most employees from vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n Data on the dynamics of social economy entities in Romania.
