Enablers and Their Role in WISEs

by ADV Romania / Monday, 09 December 2024 / Published in News, Uncategorized

Enablers are the strategic leaders in WISEs. Their responsibilities extend from defining organizational visions to ensuring the seamless operation of these mission-driven enterprises. Based on insights from the B-WISE strategy, we can identify five key personas of enablers, each contributing uniquely to WISE success. Understanding these profiles helps tailor training and support to enhance their impact.

1. The Founder

The Founder is typically a male, around 50 years old, and often one of the original creators of the WISE. He is deeply motivated by ethical values and solidarity, envisioning a world where opportunities are accessible to all. With decades of experience in managing WISE operations, the Founder brings strong leadership skills and a consensus-driven management style. While familiar with technology for daily work and communication, his interests often lie outside the realm of technological innovation. This can sometimes hinder the WISE’s capacity to fully embrace digital transformation. Looking ahead, Founders are committed to ensuring the growth of their WISE, remaining open to learning and adapting to new approaches that can sustain innovation and inclusion.

2. The Social Enabler

Social Enablers are usually male, aged between 35 and 45, with professional experience in fields like social work or business administration. These individuals possess a balanced skill set, excelling in both human-centered management and digital tools. Their role involves overseeing daily operations while simultaneously driving the long-term strategic development of the WISE. Social Enablers are highly motivated by the social mission of WISEs, striving to meet the needs of employees and foster an inclusive workplace. However, the dynamic and ever-evolving demands of the sector require continuous training to help them stay ahead. Social Enablers are future-focused, aiming to modernize their organizations and build a sustainable foundation for growth.

3. The Almost Retired

The Almost Retired persona describes enablers who are over 55 years old and have dedicated their careers to WISE leadership. These individuals have guided their organizations through significant transformations, leveraging their extensive experience to build strong relationships with networks, government entities, and the community. Their deep commitment to the WISE’s social mission is evident in their leadership style. However, having grown up in a pre-digital era, they often struggle with the rapid technological advancements now essential for effective management. As they approach retirement, their primary focus is on ensuring a smooth leadership transition while securing the WISE’s future. They aim to pass down their wealth of knowledge and experience to the next generation of enablers.

4. The Tech Enabler

The Tech Enabler is typically a female aged 35–45, who brings expertise in fields such as IT, business administration, or media. With a strong belief in the potential of digitalization, Tech Enablers are instrumental in driving technological transformation within WISEs. They use their advanced digital skills to improve organizational efficiency and prepare WISEs for a more dynamic future. However, their enthusiasm for change can sometimes clash with resistance from within the organization, creating challenges in aligning technology-driven initiatives with the broader social mission. Despite these obstacles, Tech Enablers are determined to further develop their WISE, leveraging their skills to ensure the organization becomes more technological, efficient, and forward-thinking.

5. The Beginner

The Beginner is a younger leader, often female and around 30 years old, recently appointed to lead a WISE. While highly educated and strongly committed to the WISE’s mission, Beginners often face challenges due to their limited experience in managing both operations and the unique needs of workers with support needs (WSNs). Their awareness of technology’s importance in designing efficient workflows is a significant advantage, but they often require additional mentorship and training to fully understand the intricacies of WISE leadership. Looking to the future, Beginners are eager to enhance their skills and establish strong relationships with stakeholders. They are focused on laying a foundation for sustainable growth and innovation in their organizations.

Strategic Recommendations for Empowering Enablers

  1. Tailored Training Programs: Focus on digital literacy, strategic planning, and negotiation skills to address identified gaps.
  2. Mentorship and Peer Learning: Establish networks for knowledge sharing and leadership support.
  3. Succession Planning: Facilitate knowledge transfer, particularly from founders and experienced leaders, to ensure continuity and resilience.
  4. Technology Integration: Support tech enablers in driving digital transformation across WISEs.

Conclusion

Enablers are the driving force behind WISE sustainability and growth. By addressing their unique needs and leveraging their strengths, WISEs can better navigate challenges and seize opportunities in a dynamic social and economic landscape. The B-WISE strategy provides a roadmap for empowering these leaders, ensuring they remain effective architects of inclusive and impactful enterprises.
